چکیده

Multi-stage reduction cranioplasty was performed on two children with severe macrocephaly sec ondary to hydrocephalus. One patient underwent a four-stage operation, and the other underwent a two-stage operation. The postoperative course of both patients was uneventful. Reduction cranioplasty improved quality of life for both patients, and good cosmetic results were achieved. Reduction cranioplasty is effective for the treatment of macrocephaly, and multi-stage surgery can reduce the

Abstract: Outcomes of Cranioplasty in the Adult Population: Analysis of a Statewide Population Database

INTRODUCTION: Congenital hydrocephalus, the most common cause of macrocephaly, is usually treated with ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunting. Despite shunting, changes to the overlying cranial bones cause calvarial expansion and distortion. Reduction cranioplasty can be performed to approach proper cranial size, shape, and cephalocranial proportion. However, consistent results are difficult to ach...

Abstract: Reduction Cranioplasty Using Virtual Surgical Planning for Hydrocephalic Macrocephaly

CONCLUSION: We could achieve complete bone healing and premorbid occlusion using microplates. The microplates are strong enough to keep comminuted mandibular fractures reduced. Their small size and malleability allow multiple fixation of comminuted bony segments in accurate-anatomical position, less periosteal stripping and self-occlusal adjustment. Therefore, microplate fixation may be one of ...

Is There An Optimal Time for Performing Cranioplasties? Results from a Prospective Multinational Study.

BACKGROUND The optimal timing of cranioplasty remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that the risk of infections after primary cranioplasty in adult patients who underwent craniectomies for non-infection-related indications are no different when performed early or delayed. We tested this hypothesis in a prospective, multicenter, cohort study. METHODS Data were collected prospectively ...

Collagen matrix in decompressive hemicraniectomy.

OBJECTIVE Decompressive hemicraniectomy is an accepted treatment for otherwise untreatable intracranial hypertension. The aim of this prospective randomized study is to evaluate the benefit of application of collagen matrix as an onlay graft to reduce operating time during hemicraniectomy and to facilitate dural dissection during second-stage cranioplasty. METHODS Thirty-four consecutive pati...

The floating anchored craniotomy

BACKGROUND The "floating anchored" craniotomy is a technique utilized at our tertiary neurosurgery institution in which a traditional decompressive craniectomy has been substituted for a floating craniotomy. The hypothesized advantages of this technique include adequate decompression, reduction in the intracranial pressure, obviating the need for a secondary cranioplasty, maintained bone protec...
